INITIAL DISCOVERY HOLES AT AFRICAN QUEEN'S KING SOLOMON PROJECT REVEAL SIGNIFICANT COPPER, GOLD AND SILVER MINERALIZATION AND SUGGEST ROBUST POLYMETALLIC SYSTEM; RESULTS INCLUDE 7.73 m of 1.51% Cu, 1.32 g/t Au and 27.6 g/t Ag

Vancouver, British Columbia — AFRICAN QUEEN MINES LTD. (the “Company”) is pleased to announce that it has now received from Genalysis Laboratories of Johannesburg, S.A. analytical results from the first three reconnaissance drill holes from the ongong core drilling program at The King Solomon Project, located within the central parts of the Mesoproterozoic Fingoe Belt in western Tete Province, Mozambique. All three holes reported significant copper, gold and silver mineralization at depths less than 120 m. Hole 3 included an intersection of 7.73 m of 1.51% Cu, 1.32 g/t Au, 27.6 g/t Ag and 376 ppm Bi, while Hole 2 included three separate intersections ranging in width from 4 to 11 m each of similar mineralization. Individual meter by meter samples of a maximum 5.7% Cu as well as 70 ppm Ag were reported, but generally copper values recovered are between 1% and 2%. Noteworthy gold grades have also been recorded within the mineralized zones.

These first three holes are part of the initial 2000 m reconnaissance core drilling program designed to test four distinct target zones at King Solomon with holes ranging from 120 to 200 m in depth. The three holes reported herein were all drilled into the western portion of the first target, the Mankombiti Target, which is regarded as a primary copper target. These results, the first of any drilling on record in the area, are consistent with findings of our previous surface exploration program conducted over the area and confirm the presence of significant mineralization below surface, including copper, gold and silver.

The Mankombiti Target was defined through detailed geochemical surveys, geological mapping and ground magnetic surveys (see Press Release of November 18, 2009), all of which have confirmed a potential mineralized zone of up to 4 km in strike extent. The mineralized zone is characterised by strong magnetic anomalies which describe the contact of the overlying marble unit with underlying granite and gabbro. On surface this contact horizon or zone is marked by skarn-related magnetite-copper mineralization. Induced Polarization (IP) surveys conducted early in 2010 identified a prominent IP conductor which was co-incident with the magnetic anomalies (see Press Release of June 28, 2010).

This geophysical target at Mankombiti has now been drill tested from the more easily accessible parts of the target area, including four holes on Mankombiti West (drilled from two collar positions) and four holes on Mankombiti East (drilled from two collar positions). Core logging of the Mankombiti East holes have revealed similar visible mineralization to that seen at Mankombiti West. Analytical results for the Mankombiti East Target are still pending, along with the 4th hole drilled into the West target. Both of these targets have a similar geophysical expression and more drilling is warranted to test for further mineralization which remains open-ended both along strike and down-dip.

Geological logging of the Mankombiti core has shown chalcopyrite, chalcocite and bornite to be associated with the magnetite. After logging, the core has been split and sampled, generally meter by meter. Shorter sample intervals have been used where significant lithological change has been noted.

Both MW01 and MW03 were drilled at a roughly perpendicular angle to the mineralized zone (which dips at 55 degrees to the north) and so represent approximate true thicknesses, while MW02 was a vertical borehole drilled from the same collar as MW01 and does not necessarily reflect the true thickness. The deeper intersection suggests additional mineralized zones and demonstrates continuity of mineralization down dip. Borehole MW03 was drilled from a collar position 100 m East of the previous two boreholes, and therefore shows continuity along strike. This is supported by logging of the Mankombiti East holes, where the mineralized zone is clearly visible within the core. The Mankombiti West and East targets are approximately 1 km apart and thus the majority of the target remains untested.

Drilling of the distinct Eiland and Kazito targets at King Solomon is currently in progress. Although similar in geological style to the Mankombiti target, these targets are primarily gold targets associated with high gold values (up to 32 g/t from rock-grab sampling (see Press Release September 17, 2009)).

The Mankombiti West drill core samples were analysed by Genalysis Laboratories based in Johannesburg, South Africa, using ICP – MS for multi-elements, and fire-assay for gold. The necessary external blanks, duplicates and CRM’s were inserted into the sample stream to ensure sample result confidence.

The drilling activities are being carried out by Mozambican company, Resource Drilling Lda., on behalf of the Company and its JV partner, Swiss-based Opti Metal Trading Limited (“Optimetal”). A minimum of down time has been experienced since start up in early July of this year. To date a total of 12 boreholes have been drilled with very good recoveries recorded and results pending on the latter 9. A total of 1,800 m of drilling of the expected 2,000 m drill program have now been completed. Logging and sampling is ongoing and being carried out by Remote Exploration Services of Cape Town, S.A. Further results are expected over the next few weeks and will be reported on an ongoing basis.

The King Solomon Project is located within the central parts of the Mesoproterozoic Fingoe Belt in western Tete Province, Mozambique. These rocks consist of metavolcanics, metasediments and intrusive granitic and gabbroic rocks. The Project is the subject of the Earn-in and Joint Venture Agreement dated July 10, 2009 (the “Agreement”), with Optimetal, covering exploration, development and exploitation of Prospecting License No. 884L held by Optimetal’s Mozambique subsidiary (the “License”). The License covers an area of approximately 230 km2 in the center of the Fingoe Belt and is now valid through May, 2015.

The work program at King Solomon is being conducted by RES under the direction of C. Ocker on behalf of the joint venture partners. RES has been conducting field programs for the Company on the Fingoe Regional Gold Project from the initiation of the program in 2006. The Project is being managed on behalf of the Company by Senior Consulting Geologist Mr. Pete Siegfried (M.Sc., MAusIMM), a qualified person, who has reviewed and approved the contents of this Press Release.

According to Irwin Olian, CEO of the Company, “We are delighted with these very encouraging results from our initial three boreholes at King Solomon, which demonstrate the presence of significant copper, gold and silver mineralization at the western portion of our initial Mankombiti target. We eagerly await results from analysis of the further nine holes that are pending with the lab and cover some of our prime gold targets.”
